GOTS stands for Global Organic Textile Standard. It covers two things at once, which is what makes it stricter than most textile labels.
First, the fiber. To carry the organic label, a product must contain at least 95 percent certified organic fibers. There is a second grade, the "made with organic" label, which requires at least 70 percent.
Second, everything that happens afterwards. GOTS regulates the chemicals used in processing, dyeing and finishing, prohibits a defined list of substances, and includes social criteria covering working conditions in the facilities involved.
That combination matters for a blanket, because a blanket made from organic cotton can still be dyed and finished in ways the farming certification never sees.
What GOTS Does Not Tell You
GOTS says nothing about how the blanket is constructed. Layer count, weave density, size accuracy and stitching quality are all outside its scope. Two GOTS certified blankets can feel completely different.
It also says nothing about where the cotton was grown. Certified organic cotton comes from many countries at very different quality levels, because fiber length varies by region and GOTS does not measure fiber length.

Each blanket is built from four layers of loosely woven muslin. Because each layer is light and open, the stack gains substance without density, so air still moves through the fabric.
Throw size blankets have edges that are fully hand embroidered by women in Turkey. That is a construction detail rather than a certification one, and a distinctive Naturloom detail.

Blankets run from Throw at 47 x 71 inches through Twin, Queen, King and California King at 90 x 118 inches, with matching pillowcases in Queen and King sizes sold in pairs.
Eleven colors are available: Ivory, White, Taupe, Sage Green, Indigo, Brown, Anthracite, Forest Green, Mustard, Ice Blue and Charcoal. The range is wide because a blanket usually has to work with a room that already exists.
How to Check a GOTS Claim
A real certification is traceable. GOTS certified products are covered by a certificate held by the manufacturer, and certified entities appear in the GOTS public database. If a seller cannot point to anything beyond the word itself, treat it as marketing.
Be especially careful with the surrounding vocabulary. Eco friendly, natural, chemical free and non toxic are not defined standards and nothing verifies them. They often appear precisely where a real certification is missing.
Is It Worth Paying More For?
Honestly, it depends what you want from it. If your concern is what touches your skin for eight hours a night, the processing rules are the part that earns the price, because that is where untested textiles differ most.
If your concern is only softness, certification will not tell you much. A cheaper uncertified blanket can feel fine at first. The difference shows up in year two, and that comes from the cotton rather than the label.
The strongest case is when both are true: certified processing and long staple cotton in a construction that suits how you sleep.
Caring for a Certified Blanket
Certification covers the blanket as it reaches you. After that it comes down to washing. Wash it alone the first time. Use a gentle cycle at 86°F (30°C) and tumble dry on low heat. If air drying, support the blanket evenly in a well ventilated area and avoid stretching it while wet.
Do not use bleach and do not dry clean. Avoid washing with jeans or anything that has small hooks, which can pull at the weave or catch an embroidered edge. No ironing is needed.
